EXPLORE CRAIGMACAGAN!

Saturday 28 May 2016
Noon to 3.30pm
Rathlin Island. Meet at the bus shelter by Rathlin harbour

Join RSPB warden and islander, Liam McFaul, to explore the secret haven of Craigmacagan during the Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival Week.

You’ll stroll along the shore road round Mill Bay to see a variety of shore birds, eiders and seals before visiting the secluded Craigmacagan reserve, where abundant carpets of spring flowers like primroses, bluebells and heath-spotted orchids flourish. Wander through damp meadow and up onto open heathland before heading down to the gentle, rocky coastline, where oystercatchers and common gulls nest. Here you can spend a leisurely while, stretched out on the heathery banks, tucked into a crevice or you can dip into a tiny cove and paddle your feet in the water while enjoying views across the sea to Fair Head and the Mull of Kintyre.

PRICE: Free for RSPB members and children under five. Non-members will cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children aged 5-16.

HOW TO BOOK: Booking is essential by calling 028 9049 1547 or emailing angela.mahon@rspb.org.uk

ANYTHING ELSE: Please book your ferry crossing in advance via www.rathlinballycastleferry.com or by calling 028 2076 9299. We recommend booking the 11.15am departure from Ballycastle and the 3.30pm return crossing.
