Kelp Store restorations

Wednesday 5 September 2012

Many people will have noticed the work going on recently on the Kelp Store. The National Trust has hired specialist contractors to stabilise the walls of the Store.

The Kelp Store has been closed off for some time due to health and safety concerns. The current work is designed to repair the walls without any obvious signs of intervention, and should keep the Kelp Store strong and stable into the foreseeable future. This is obviously good news for any potential future development of the Kelp Store site.

The work is intricate and involved, and requires the drilling of holes in the walls and the flow of a lime mixture into the cavities of the walls. The walls are also being sealed and topped off, and the wooden window lintels are being repaired.
